Scholarship Campaigns of Learning
Fueling Research, Telling New York’s Earliest Stories
Proceeds from the auction benefit targeted scholarships that advance original research on the First Peoples and early New Amsterdam. Each award supports a defined study with a public, publishable outcome.
Auction Items
Bidders have the rare opportunity to support groundbreaking scholarship while leaving a lasting legacy. The winning bidder for each auction item will have the scholarship named in their honor, directly funding original research that advances our understanding of New York’s earliest history—from the lives of the Lenape to the civic rhythms of New Amsterdam and the region’s economic foundations.
The Original People — First Peoples Studies
A year-long high-school scholarship supporting rigorous study of the Original People of today’s New York. Students research an approved topic on Lenapehoking history and culture and publish an article in a qualified historical journal.
Goal: fund one school cohort per year; deliver a peer-review-ready publication.
A Year in the Life of New Amsterdam
A two-year higher-education scholarship to reconstruct a full civic year in New Amsterdam (1624–1664). Students document daily routines across seasons for a farmer, merchant, government official, and sailor, producing a dated timeline of everyday life.
Deliverable: a season-by-season, day-dated timeline published online with citations.
The Economic Enterprise of Nieuw Amsterdam
A research award supporting a dissertation-level study of the Dutch and First Peoples’ regional economy. The focus includes trade networks, commodities, finance, labor, and policy impacts from the Hudson estuary to the Atlantic world.
Outcome: a publicly accessible dissertation or monograph with primary-source appendices.
Women of 400 Years Past
A research grant examining the leadership and labor of women in Lenapehoking and Nieuw Amsterdam. The project explores how women from First Peoples and European communities shaped family, economy, law, and the growth of New York.
Deliverable: an interpretive essay or exhibit script with documented primary sources.
